Personality Psychology

Personality refers to individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. Psychologists and other mental health professionals such as Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists and Licensed Social Workers strive to understand how personality develops as well as how it influences the way we think and behave. This area of psychology seeks to understand personality and how it varies among individuals as well as how people are similar in terms of personality.

The study of personality focuses on two broad areas:

One is understanding individual differences in particular personality characteristics, such as sociability or irritability.

The other is understanding how the various parts of a person come together as a whole.
